about
Advent is a season of tension. We await the promise of deliverance, of a savior that will come to set all things right.
And yet, we are crushed, bruised, and broken. The righteous crumble while the wicked prosper. Justice is far from us. We are at the end of our collective ropes.
But it is in this pain that the hope of Advent is made plain. We hope that one day, our broken bones will be mended. One day, our oppressors will be laid low. One day, the meek shall inherit the earth. We shall see justice.
This advent season, when it feels like we are so mired in calamity and anxiety, this carol brings a simple hope: rejoice, for your deliverer is coming.
lyrics
O come, o come Emmanuel
And ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonesome exile here
Until the Son of God appear
Rejoice
O come, thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan's tyranny
From depths of Hell Thy people save
And give them victory o'er the grave
Rejoice
O come, Thou Dayspring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night
And death's dark shadows put to flight
